Mark's goal is to hold the line on government budgets to keep taxes at or below their current level.
- Maintain or improve service levels without increases in taxpayer levy dollars or shifting of money from critical reserve funds.
- Make sure property values are in line with current economic conditions, similar property types, and be sure property taxes are being fairly assessed.
- Maintain government employment levels through careful and proactive budget management. Mark is used to working within budgetary limitations, and has a proven track record of staying within budget constraints.
- Increase the use of technology to reduce costs, improve quality of service and provide more timely and meaningful communication with residents.
- Focus on reducing government's dependence upon property taxes to fund its revenue needs.
- Require critical review and performance standards for proposed risky or potentially unrealistic projects which are seeking taxpayer subsidy. Becoming involved in these projects without appropriate understanding, can require substantial investments of government funds and government employee time. In the coming years, funds and time will be better spent on projects or initiatives which have a high probability for success, and meet the core priority needs of our citizens.
